RE: Federal Land Grab

I had the chance to take our ATVs to the Rockies and ride some of the Forrest Trails outside Estes Park and Winter Park a few years ago with my wife. What views. I would not have been able to experience the Beauty like that from the paved roads and I am out when it comes to hiking, body can't take it. Please don't take the opportunity away from me experiencing that with my children while teaching respect for the Land. Our problem with destruction is those who destroy are not held responsible. I myself am guilty not speaking up when I see trash being thrown and doughnuts being turned in areas restricted. Something I am trying to change in my encounters. Lack of respect and shifting blame is why we as a nation are in a state we are in.

RE: What Desert Fox Dealers near Midwest had best price?

Crap, traided ours in back in July, I got 15000 for it. It was an 05.

RE: Trailer plug to TV

Did you use an adapter? Might check that. Also check the Ground. That can really mess things up with a bad connection and drive you nuts trying to find the problem.

RE: Satellite hookup

Just a tip, once the correct one is found, mark it or leave the cable hanging. I had to pull off the TV to connect the Sat feed anyway. Another thing, Try the TV and make sure the amp is on in the Bedroom. The cable feed also goes to all the rest of the TVs in the trailer so if the TV works on one, the other is the Sat.

RE: Looking at toy haulers, have questions

The "Glass" door is not real glass, it is Lexan (sp?) or plexiglass. I have a 362 and love it. The feel of the living area is larger with the sliding door.

RE: CASH DISCOUNT for Diesel fuel.

$30 is a lot of Snickers and Mt Dew. Beer on the other hand... that a good evening with a few friends. Problem in Ok is you can only get 6. in Liquor stores. Quicky marts and Grocery stores have 3.2

RE: Newby to Trailering Needs Sanity Check

We had a TT first and then went into a 5er. If you go TT first, get a used one (learned by experience). The big depreciation has already taken place and you will feel better after a couple years when you sell/trade it on the 5er. But if financing is an issue get what you really want in a 5er first. You have longer terms with new over used and in many cases better rates. Get the TV that will take pull more than what you think you will ever need. That way when you upgrade your camper, you don't have to upgrade your TV, another lesson currently being learned the hard way by us. We took a big hit from the TT to the 5er. Our camping needs changed with our first child as well as what we felt we needed in a camper. At least we can write off the interest being a second home.

RE: Looking at an F350

I like having to pull in with the "Big Rigs" when traveling with the camper. Makes me feel big and strong. Really it is easier than trying to pump with the gassers and getting blocked in by VW bugs and MINI coopers that think I have a backup camera and know they are there. Almost had "bug guts" on the back of the trailer last year. What I do hate is Wal-Mart and many other Stations that put the Diesel beside a gas pump so you have to wait for the gas people to get out of the way to pump when there are 5 other open gas pumps. As for which is better? Go with your gut. Drive both and if you feel real daring, try both with a good load behind them. For me I still break even with driving a diesel over my former gasser.

RE: CASH DISCOUNT for Diesel fuel.

I am not a OTR Driver, but I think the "Credit" is for something like the Fuelman card that Companies charge and pay after the delivery. Different than our Mastercard or Visa. I do know that in many cases there is a 3% charge by the credit card companies per transaction. When fuel was cheep, fuel stations ate the difference, but when the price gets to triple digits and for the big rigs, almost four, 3% really adds up.

RE: GM asking us to void warranty on chipped trucks.

I have a 04.5 with the Edge EZ. Bought the truck with 30k, and put the programmer on after 2500 miles. Pulled our Desert Fox before and after the programmer for reference. Better fuel mileage and towing on hills (did not dog up the same hill without). I have had my truck in the shop for a few reasons, Fuel pump crashed 80000 miles(because of the programmer? Not sure, common enough problem that Cummins had the fuel pump relocated to tank) Governor valves needed to be replaced and bands adjusted on the trany at 90000 (starting out in 2nd and overheating). Not covered by Dodge because post 75000 miles, covered out of pocket. Programmer? Many here have had the same problem. The dealer did not have a problem with the programmer but the service tech said to take it out so some new guy or Manager would not get any ideas. What frustrates me is if I waned to put gauges in for EGTs, Trany Temp or Turbo boost, I would get the ax on warrety coverage because the assumption would be I bombed the truck and treating it like I stole it. My beef is this, the gauges are a monitoring device that can save many parts and work if allowed. One can save a lot when you see what is going on. Because I am still under warrenty, all be it 4000 now, I do not have gauges yet. Call out the moral card, but we have all broken the Law, broken the speed limit, not using our blinkers and putting the incorrect fuel or lub in according to the manufacture.

RE: Which is easier to Park? 5th wheel or travel trailer??

I have a 90deg turn off the side street to our parking spot. A ditch that should have a colvert and a chainlink fence with 16' opening. I had a 30' TT and now have a 38' 5er. The TT was OK, but the 5er is easier because of how sharp I need to turn. You have to trust the back will swing and when it does, it goes quick in a 5er. Then pull up to straighten out and back the rest of the way. I like not having to worry about Jack Knifing like with the TT or pinching the pigtail or removing the friction bars (guess how I know that). I know that this was about Backing, but "Backing up" to hookup is also easier with the 5er.

RE: ATV & Lake Murray OK

I use to Live in Durant, Ok and we would run to Murray for the day. Great place to ride. The best part is jumping in the lake durring the ride. You can see your toes the water is so clear, that is after you clean yourself off. Lake Murray is a Canyon lake so parts are really deep. Rain and run off fill the lake, not fed by a river. There are cabins, but they are by the main marina on the West side of the lake, few miles from the trail head. The bathrooms are clean and you can get a hot shower, but you pay. $.50 for 2 min I think. ABinOK is correct there are some real characters out there, but I venter to say they are almost anywhere you can ride. They are the same people that cause problems with the public putting the bad name to ATVs and the people who ride them. One bad apple can sure spoil it for those who try to respect each other and the places they ride.

RE: Is our T.V antenna going to work in 2009 ??

At home I have the 35 year old Antenna hooked up to our new 1080p Sony. We get the digital signal just fine. The problem here in OK is the stations are not putting full strength yet on the digital side. Either we have signal or not. Now our antenna Batwing in our camper seams to hold the digital signal better, but I think that is because I can point it where I want. The amp helps. We got the converter box so out TV in the camper bedroom would get signal (we have Dish at home with HD). It does great. I think the "Digital" antenna guy may have fell into the temptation the Highschool Salesman at the "Buy More" suggested.

RE: Fuzions, who has one? Any model

Also have the 362. Love it. We have used it more for a guest house and normal 5th wheel. I have yet to hall toys larger that bicycles, but the door, as in all toy haulers, is great to load the grill or other larger items that would be a bear or unable to take with traditional 5ers. By the way, the sliding door in ours is Ledxan or Plexi, not glass. I know that was a concern of some looking at the Fuzion. Pulls well but boy is it big compared to our last toy hauler, and Desert Fox 28ks. Unlike Madhatter1, we liked not having the bar, more floor space for our 13 month old but I could see the increased counter space a plus.

RE: Just joined the club

Yes he can hear (13 months). I am working on what and how I say things around him, that was a test that I failed, but what is good is I can keep working. I am sure some day mom will ask where he heard such things and he will rat me out. I was somewhat surprised he wasn't throwing a fit like he does most of the time when we get lost or patients are thin. If that would have happned I probably would have had to walk away for a while. Forgiveness is wonderful, just wish I did not have to depend so much on it.

Just joined the club

Just joined the "Crushed My Cab with the 5th wheel while driving a Shortbed Truck" club. It is really stupid, I have a slider, all be it manuel.:M We were looking for the camp ground and had to turn around because I missed the turn and the directions were very bad (all in all I turned around 5 times, one time I did in the middle of a back road intersection). So I thought "Hey, I will turn around in this big Church parking Lot" and not have to worry about the slider (PITA to change from Tow to Turn). My trailer has the 35% sharper turning with the shortbed. I pulled in and started to make my "Big Turn" and then I heard something like fiberglass craking. I stopped and jumped out knowing what I just did.:S The camper is fine, but the Drivers side piller has a big dent the size of a soft ball. Thank goodness the back window is fine, but it was close. I had my 13 month old in the back driver side seat. This was not my first time to pull the 5er with this truck and I thought I knew the space I needed. Guess I was wrong. I am ticked at myself, but mostly Google, Garmin and the Camp Host because they all gave bad directions. Thanks for letting me vent. I now need to brush my teeth and say my prayers asking for forgiveness after all the bad words that somehow came out of my mouth:B. Thank goodness the "Little Man" can't talk yet.

RE: Is it legal to leave the drawbar/ball in when not towing?

If you are hitting the drawbar with your shin, you are walking to close to the truck/vehical. If you have your tailgate down, over the drawbar are you still illegal? Just so you know, down south the Drawbar is a sign of status, much like the belt buckel. The bigger the better and add a set of BullsBalls you move to the top of the hill.

RE: thinking of quads

I think the new Honda Rancher has power stearing, fuel injected and is automatic. I am a Honda fan. I have an 03 350 Rancher and loved it till the wife started riding it then I got an 06 Honda Rubicon. They are not the fastest, don't have the most bells and whistles but they are bullett proof. Both are 4x4.

RE: ATV & Lake Murray OK

Great place to ride. I use to live 45 miles from there. The best part is you ride by the lake and so when you get hot from pulling yourself from a giant hole by yourself without a winch (not that I have experience) you can jump in and take a swim. If I am not mistaken it is a natural lake and the bottom is quite deep in many spots. This helps keep the water very clear. The last time I was there, I could see my feet while treading water. Most lakes in Ok are not like that.

RE: Getting ATVs to the riding spot when at the campground?

I have a 4X6 tilt trailer that the toung comes off (got it from Tractor Supply), I have just enough room for the two quads and the trailer in the Desert Fox. Put the toung on and put one ATV in the back of the truck and the other on the trailer. I get some funny looks with the big Quad on the little trailer at the riding areas, but I got there in one trip, that is all I care. We went to Estes Park, Co. and stayed in the Cramped sites, but got to ride the Forest Roads. That was a blast for me comming from Oklahoma. By the way, the trailer is great for moving stuff around the yard and even the mower without having to get out the truck.
